 <note>Volunteering has become a highly desired experience nowadays.  53% population in Indonesia ever volunteered. This phenomenon leads to many NGOs that were established in Indonesia, such as Inspiration Factory Foundation. To understand the altruistic motives and how volunteers develop meanings through interactions, this research use qualitative method with six informants. Theories used in the analysis are Symbolic Interaction Theory and Altruism. The result of this study is that volunteers who have altruism characteristics own some qualities like empathy, social responsibilities, internal locus of control and low egocentric. Volunteers are contributing to society affecting their levels of altruism. By trying to practice altruism, volunteers can lead a positive way to solve social problems by collaborating with communities.&#13;
